There are two things I like to do in the morning to start the day: I like to do a 2-mile walk and enjoy a healthy smoothie afterwards. I’m not a coffee drinker, so when I’m not drinking tea, this Super Green Smoothie is a delicious option.
Inspired By Protein Bar
Back when I was working in the city everyday, I discovered the High Five at Protein Bar. I loved it, but it was almost $6.00 for the smoothie and needless to say, not something I could afford to enjoy everyday. Now that I’m working for myself and I’m not in the city as often, I decided to learn to make this at home. It saves a lot of money and I can enjoy one everyday, if I want.
It has the same key ingredients as the High Five, with a couple additions of my own: Spinach, Kale, Cilantro, Pineapple, Ice, Almond Milk and Honey.
It’s incredibly refreshing and healthy. I recommend tasting it as you blend everything together to see if you want to adjust the taste to your liking. I call for 1-2 cups of each, so start with 1 cup of each and go from there. It’s a very flexible recipe based on what you like. I also add a little extra pineapple to be sure there’s some sweetness within all the greens.
If you want it extra thick and smooth, use Greek Yogurt instead of the Almond Milk.
